Your home first-aid kit may contain:
- Disposable gloves
- Sterile dressings to stop bleeding
- Cleansing agent or soap and antibiotic towelettes to disinfect
- Antibiotic ointment to prevent infection
- Burn ointment to prevent infection
- Adhesive bandages in a variety of sizes
- Eye wash solution to flush the eyes or as a general decontaminate
- A non-mercury thermometer
- Scissors
- Tweezers
- Prescription medications you take every day, such as insulin, heart medicine, and asthma inhalers (rotated with newer medications with later expirations dates)
- Prescribed medical supplies such as glucose and blood pressure monitoring equipment and supplies
Your home first-aid kit may also include these and other non-prescription drugs:
- Aspirin or non-aspirin pain reliever
- Antacid (for upset stomach)
- Anti-diarrhea medication
- Laxative
- Activated charcoal, if advised by the Poison Control Center
